Remember our little Should I game on this blog? Same idea here, just smaller in scope. Post a wish for our little friend, and tomorrow I’ll pick the best one and we’ll go from there.

I can’t & don’t endorse all their work, but these three are the ones I’m looking at as I seek to learn how to draw simple, iconic, Western characters.

The above images are the reasons I love Jared Chapman’s work. He helped me break through a wall of uniform facial features, and showed me the variety of constructions that can be used to create a varied, lively, American illustrative world. Thanks, Jared!
(Note: best of all is bottom, center — wide-set round eyes with worry lines, simple/imperfect nose, “thick” ears … I think I need to send Jared a fruit basket or something.)
Caught a major break today with the discovery of Jared Chapman (thanks, Drawn!). He’s part Scott C., part Kate Beaton, part Emily Carrol, and very much win.
(Those three are a breed of American* illustrators/comics artists whose work I really respond to as non-Manga, non-Herge, authentic, emotional, graphic, and clear.)
*Canada is in North America, kids.

I have no idea who Jodabar is, or this dude, or what his deal is. But I do know that he doesn’t seem to be the happiest or most ethical of campers.
