“Shut Up About Babies” t-shirt

May 9th, 2012 | Filed under: Illustration | Add a Comment »

T-shirt design by the inimitable Kate Beaton. Some of you may wonder why I don’t have more to say about my [insert affectionate adjectives here] daughter. It’s because I’m so crazy about her that I know I would swiftly exhaust your patience if I opened that can of worms.

The point is, this shirt is hilarious.

Well played, illustrator for the Harvard Business Review, December 2011 Scott Berinato article. Well played.

While borrowing a friend’s copy of Harvard Business Review to look at design, I came across this article, and love the illustration. It’s a great play on the whole Melbourne trend, mixed with some beautiful pen drawing.

Nice work, uncredited illustrator.

…but my favorite by far is “Seaside Town.”

Check out the rest of her smile-inducing, gently confessional portfolio!

Jaws/Moby Dick mashup print by Terry Fan

April 10th, 2012 | Filed under: Illustration | 2 Comments »

I’m realizing that I’m a sucker for Moby Dick designs. I think it’s the massive scale, the iconic simplicity of the white whale, and the 3D/2D-dimensionality that most of them carry.

Anyway, all that to say that this design by Terry Fan (whose work you should really check out) made me happy.

They Were Strange And Quiet And Sad, But Kind

The Atlantic put up a stunning gallery called A World Without People. I couldn’t help but respond in the vein of Aaron Leighton‘s beautiful Spirit City Toronto.

These are the only three for now. I’d love to do more sometime. The title of the concept is They Were Strange And Quiet And Sad, But Kind.
