More Than Watchmen

Wait For the Morning
Acrylic on canvas

For Sale: $300 SOLD
A painting based on an ancient song of ascents. The full text:

Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD! / Lord, hear my voice! / Let your ears be attentive to / the voice of my pleas for mercy! / If you, O LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? / But with you there is forgiveness, that you may be feared. // I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, / and in his word I hope; / my soul waits for the Lord / more than watchmen for the morning, / more than watchmen for the morning. // O Israel, hope in the LORD! / For with the LORD there is steadfast love, / and with him is plentiful redemption. / And he will redeem Israel / from all his iniquities.

Stylus in Photoshop

My first serious attempt at lifelike portraiture (albeit stylized, obviously). I loved doing this piece, and hope to do many more portraits in the future.

A Secret, or The Truth

A Secret, or The Truth, 1 & 2
Part 1: pastels on black paper
Part 2: digital stylus in Photoshop

A set of new medium paintings — part 1 was the first time I had ever used pastels on colored paper, and part 2 was the first time I had used a digital stylus. This probably contributed to the sense of wonder and discovery in each.

The Patient Tinker

The Patient Tinker
#2 Pencil on moleskine

"The patient tinker burst into the tower room of the Mirror-Princess, and saw her reflected tears..."

(Part of an ongoing children's book illustration project.)

Doodles

Doodles & Sketches
(1) Ballpoint pen
(2) No.2 Pencil
(3) Acrylic Paint

Ephemera and randomness. I tend to think in black and white lines, and have been known to doodle occasionally. When we got married, my wife was astonished at the sheer volume of sketches I brought with me into our new place. We've tried to winnow it down since then, and have been generally succeeding.
